Below are some interesting ways you can apply the effects in Effects Pack #2. Play around with the settings to get other cool ideas!
Using Mosaic as a Transition
You can use the Mosaic effect to transition from one scene to another, if you're using an editing application which supports tweening in Quicktime effects.
Apply the Mosaic effect to your first clip. Set the starting value of the “Tile Size” parameter to the minimum value, and set the ending value to the maximum value.
Place the second clip so that it starts right where the first clip ends. Then apply the Mosaic effect to your second clip. This time, set the starting value of the “Tile Size” parameter to the maximum amount, and set the ending value to the minimum amount.
This transition will blur the first clip more and more, until the entire frame is one color. The second clip will also be entirely one color when it starts, but will become more and more clear as the effect becomes less and less.
Using the Gamma Filter for Cross Platform Movies
When creating movies on one platform and viewing them on another, such as going from the Mac to Windows, you often find that the movies appear too bright or too dark on the viewing platform. While each movie is different, and each viewer's monitor and surrounding lighting are different, users have reported the following values to be a good starting place for changing the gamma between the Mac and Windows.
If your movie is edited on the Mac and you're playing back on Windows, try using a “Gamma” setting of 0.65.
If your movie is edited on Windows and you're playing back on a MacOS machine, try using a “Gamma” setting of 1.54.
These values are a recommended starting point. As always, the more destination machines you can test with, the easier it will be to make adjustments and refine your movies.
Creating a Tunnel Effect with the Polar Filter
You can create a unique tunnel effect using the Polar filter. First, apply the filter to your clip and set the transformation to “Polar to Rectangular” and save the resulting movie to disk.
Open the movie you saved to disk. Now apply the Polar filter again, but set the transformation to “Rectangular to Polar”. The resulting movie is the same as the original, but looks like it's being viewed through a tunnel.
